Cody came home from school a couple weeks ago and said, “Today in school we learned about the bluebonnets and how they are the Texas state flower. You take people’s picture in the bluebonnets…now I want MY picture taken in the bluebonnets!” Well yes sir! How could I say no to that?
I let them choose their own outfits and do their own thing when we got there and all in all, it was a success. A five year old’s dream come true!

Since we arrived in Texas four months ago, my two favorite gals have both had their hubbies redeploy after a year spent in Iraq. I cannot tell you how much I admire these women who do it all while their husbands are deployed: raising children, supporting the kid’s sports teams, volunteering with their military support groups, handling household crises, and so much more. I’ve done my share of going it alone, including a year in Korea and two deployments to Iraq, and let me tell ya…it ain’t easy. It’s just as hard for the deployed spouse. I can’t imagine spending a year away from my children and living in a war zone. I have so much admiration and appreciation for our military families. We truly appreciate your service.

One thing I love about being a military family is the opportunity to live all over the United States.  We’ve lived in Georgia, Washington, North Carolina, Kansas, and Texas, and inevitably run into old friends from former duty stations every time we move.  I met Bonnie and her gorgeous family a few years ago when I shot their family photos in Kansas.  I was so excited to learn that we would live near them again when we moved to Texas, but alas, duty calls and they are getting ready to pursue a new adventure in Washington, D.C.  I’m not worried though…I know our paths will cross again.  Much love and well wishes to the Michaels Family as they move on to bigger and better things!

I’ve been going through all of my old personal photos and backing them up–as everyone should.  I’ve learned the hard way about not backing up your photos and now I’m a bit obsessed with it.  Anyway, I came across these photos of my Cody.  This was when he was just shy of his 4th birthday and we discovered he had a very special talent.  We just call it “The Eyebrow”, as in, “Hey Cody, do the eyebrow just one more time.  Pleeeeease?” 

This is my 4th time photographing this family!  You’ll probably remember them most recently from their family reunion when Geoff redeployed from a year in Iraq.  I can’t really put into words how much I love them and will be so incredibly sad to see them move on to their next adventure this June.
