My hunting boys

December 21st, 2007 | My boys, my loves

I don’t really understand the obsession with hunting…I just don’t.  My husband however, understands it well.  It’s safe to say that it’s his new hobby…one that involves many 4:30 a.m. wake up calls, many morning hours in some remote field, and unfortunately, many trips to Cabelas

We have a yellow lab, which is a retriever.  I believe we bought Riley almost 8 years ago with the intention of him being a hunting dog, however, he hasn’t been hunting all that much since Jason hasn’t had as many opportunities to go as he would have liked (you know, that Army thing kind of gets in the way sometimes).  That being said, you’d think Riley would be a little confused about what his job is when he’s in the field, but he’s not!  He actually retrieved his first bird this week!

Riley

Doesn’t he look hilarious in his vest?  When we first tried this on him, I about wet my pants laughing so hard!  He just looked like he was embarrassed!  It was the funniest thing…he didn’t even want to move.  Jason says he’s used to it now, but I don’t know–he still kind of looks like he’s a bit humiliated to me.

And here’s a cute one of my hubby and his first goose.  We had a bit of a discussion deciding what he was going to do with with this.  He voted for stuffing it and hanging in our house…um no.  I voted for cooking him up.  Jake, my sweet sensitive one, voted for donating him to a family who didn’t have enough money for Christmas dinner this year.  That’s my favorite!  Currently, the goose is awaiting a decision in my in-laws’ deep freeze (thanks G & C!).

Jake, my first grader, said to me the other day:

Jake:  Guess what I heard the other day!  I heard a 2nd grader call his mom, ‘Mommy’.

Me:  What’s wrong with that?

Jake:  Well, he’s in 2nd grade…isn’t he too old to be calling her Mommy?  Shouldn’t he just call her Mom?

Me:  Honey, he can call her Mommy as long as he likes.  There are no rules about that.

Jake:  Really?  Can I still call you Mommy when I’m 13?

Me:  Of course.

Jake:  How about when I’m married and 36?

Me:  Well, that might be a little weird for your wife, but sure…you can still call me Mommy.

Jake:  Thank goodness.

Ooooh, I just love those little guys so much!

Oh, go Elf Yourself!

December 13th, 2007 | Funny stuff, Personal

Okay, this was fun!  A ton of my friends have made these, but I haven’t been able to find the time yet.  Well, found it tonight!

Check out our Family Elf Dance.  I think the most hilarious thing about it is that my husband got a small girl body and my boys have the big shoulders and chest (but not in the same way my husband’s chest is big…hee, hee)

Oh by the way, my sweet friend Marianne, who is also an army wife photographer, left me a message that if you send a card to a soldier at Walter Reed (see previous post) it has to be addressed with an actual name.  I’m assuming that’s for safety reasons and now that I think about it, I believe I’ve been told this before.  Sorry, it was a great idea though!

Have a good night,

Kelly
